Rachael - Meet the team

Behind every thriving business is someone making sure the moving parts actually move. At Sycamore, our OBMs are the steady hands turning big ideas into structured, sustainable growth, and today we’re introducing you to Rachael Best.

With more than two decades of experience across commercial and marketing leadership roles, Rachael brings strategic thinking, operational clarity, and a genuine passion for supporting entrepreneurs. She understands what it takes to scale a business without losing sight of the people behind it, and she loves being the person clients can rely on to bring order, momentum, and calm to the day-to-day.

In this Meet the OBM Q&A, Rachael shares her career journey, what drew her to Sycamore, her favourite projects, and why the right support can make all the difference for neurodivergent business owners building companies that truly work for them.

Whether you are curious about what an OBM actually does, considering support for your own business, or simply love a peek behind the curtain, you are in the right place.

I have over 21 years’ experience in Commercial and Marketing Management roles within B2B manufacturing, primarily working with SME businesses. Throughout my career, I’ve worked closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to drive growth and improve performance.

In my role as Commercial Manager, I was part of the Executive Team, where I helped shape the company’s growth strategy and was actively involved in acquisitions.

I joined Sycamore because I wanted the flexibility of working freelance, while still using the knowledge and skills I’d built throughout my management career. This allows me to support entrepreneurs and small businesses in achieving sustainable growth.

I really enjoy the variety the role offers, as no two days are ever the same. I also value knowing that I’m a genuine asset to the businesses I work with. Clients can access my experience for as many hours as they need, without the long-term commitment or costs associated with employing a full-time member of staff.

Marketing Strategy and planning, website and social media management, proofreading, and the development of systems and processes.

I love getting stuck into the detail and making sure everything works together effectively.

While I’m not neurodivergent myself, I have close friends who have been diagnosed with ADHD and autism.

Through these relationships, I’ve developed a strong understanding of the challenges that neurodivergent individuals face, both in everyday life and in the workplace, as both business owners and employees.

In my experience, Neurodivergent business owners often have a very strong entrepreneurial spirit and incredible ideas. What they sometimes need is the right support and guidance to help turn that brilliance into reality, rather than their abilities being underestimated or misunderstood.

Notion is my favourite for its ease of use and how simply it allows me to share information with clients.

Canva is a very close second – it’s incredibly versatile and makes creating professional-looking content quick and easy.

Outside of work, I love going for walks, spending time at the gym, travelling with my family, and socialising with friends.

Outside of work, I’ve recently been enjoying life with our new puppy. It’s been great fun helping them settle in and become part of the family, although it’s definitely keeping us on our toes!

Don’t be afraid to ask for support or outsource where it makes sense. Using the right tools to reduce overwhelm can make a huge difference. Success doesn’t come from doing everything alone; it comes from creating a business that supports you to do your best work.

Fulfilling

You can meet the full team here, and we’ll be back next month with another OBM Q&A.
